today we were invited by the other journeygirls to take the train downtown & explore an area known as green market square. there in the middle of the big city is an african-style bartering market filled with fabric, jewelry & craft vendors all vying for your attention/business.
everywhere you turn are smiling faces & open hands drawing you into their booths, "for YOU, i give good price. i give you almost free!"
great to run into a lady who i bought a painting from in march 2011. i had my eyes peeled for her with the vague picture of her face in the back of my mind. & there she stood...same place, same paintings. day in & day out she's stood for the last year...& who knows how long before that. looking forward to going back & getting to know/talking more with the vendors as we take various teams there over the next 18 months!
side note: today felt like one of the coldest days yet! it was 39 degrees outside when i woke up & the journeygirls said it was 45 inside the house! i was bundled up in fleece socks, SHOES & gloves all day! PRAY for those who are living in townships & on the streets - to stay warm, healthy & safe. some are fortunate enough to have small gas heaters, but shack fires are both common & disasterous with so many living so closely!
