days 104-115: A.W.A.

there are a few funny little phrases we use here on the field whenever we [temporarily] "lose the battle" to the overseas life:
A.W.A. (african wins again!)
&
T.I.A. (this IS africa).

the last 12 days, i cannot tell you how many times BOTH of them have come to mind.

when i last wrote & said i felt like i should step away from updating for a week, little did i know HOW TRUE that would be! all i can say is God is good & He was already warning me about the weeks ahead!

WEEK 1 HIGH POINT:
- sarah & i did not work in the schools since we were attending a curriculum training. while the training was scheduled to last mon-friday, we felt the Lord leading us to pull out after the 3rd day. we gained a lot of perspective from those 3 days & even connected with another potential national partner. PRAY for "T"as i may be meeting with her tomorrow (saturday) to talk about possibly coming to visit with us in the schools this coming week. she is eagerly seeking to get involved & has recently quit her job in order to clear her schedule to do so! praise the LORD!

WEEKEND BETWEEN WEEK 1 & 2:
- all i can say is i'm humbled. our cape town xhosa student ministry team & supervisor SURROUNDED us with love, support, & the most servant-hearted leadership i've ever seen as we moved from our 2nd story flat to our new home. the former journeygirls made it safely back to the US & the family who previously lived in the home arrived from the US to gather their belongings. it was a long, long weekend of moving for all involved!

- right around then everything seemed to fall apart. among many other things, the internet stopped working at the house & the security system went haywire. we spent hours on the phone & going from one office to the next only to be told it was always someone else's fault. if that's not frustrating enough, try doing it all with people you cannot hardly understand. thankfully, (& quite possibly from lack of sleep), i just began to laugh uncontrollably...what else can you do??

WEEK 2 SUMMARY:
- by the time sunday night rolled around, sarah & i were exhausted & extremely grateful to have planned ahead of time for school (thanks to the early pull out from the training).

- mon-wed. went GREAT in the schools. we continued teaching on sex & abstinence, utilizing some true love waits material as well as stories & testimonies of some guests we had with us observing from johannesburg. the learners were so attentive & continued asking some really deep, difficult questions. NO ONE talks with them on this subject matter & yet it affects their futures in SUCH a massive way.

- thursday i was on my own at the school as sarah was sick, & it was honestly pretty challenging. out of the 4 schools we are in, the behavior is most difficult there. join us in PRAYing for wisdom as to how to proceed there.

*thanks to all of you who sent emails to check in! you'll be glad to know the internet is up & running again...for now! :)

(bottom left) as we looked out the window over the weekend, we realized 2 guys w/ a horse & buggy had come to take all the trash we'd put out on the road. one man's trash truly is another man's treasure!

(top left) according to one class, they think only 15/100 youth will wait until marriage to have sex.
they think girls start having sex at 12 years old &
will have sex with 10 guys before they are married.
this class gave the LOWEST numbers all week.
most classes said youth began having sex at 7-8 yrs. old &
would have sex with 12-18 before marriage.
PRAY for the TRUE LOVE of the Savior to cut deep into the hearts of these youth,
to infiltrate their lives in a way that will affect many more generations to come!
