today was interesting, to say the least...
sarah & i showed up at school a little early...around 8. when we pulled into the school lot there were a TON of students lined up in front - many of whom we have in class. they all had somber faces & stood not saying a word. the principal stood in front of them not saying a word either. not knowing what was going on, we stayed in the car for a bit. we didn't want to be a distraction. after 25 minutes though...still with the learners standing silently, we needed to go to class!
come to find out, ALL these students were late to school. every week when we show up at xolani there are a few students standing outside the gate being "scolded" for their tardiness by the principal...but NEVER this many! crazy.
we spoke about unconditional love today in class & shared a contextualized, revised version of the prodigal son from luke 15:11-32. it was a similar story of a girl named sindiswa who ran away from home but was later, after many bad choices, welcomed back into the loving arms of her father. cool to see the intensity in the eyes of the students as they listened...even cooler to see them pull out Bibles & look up the story when we talked about the luke passage. their teacher was not there today so we had even more freedom than usual to talk about Scripture. praise the Lord for His sovereignty in even this! :) thanks to their questions, now we can pass out the story from the Scriptures next week to about 60 students during the school day! :)
