today marked the beginning of our final week of term 4 (& the school year as a whole) before the learners begin writing exams. since we have an hour on mondays in each class we planned a somewhat crazy lesson. we'd intended on being outside for half of it, but the kids were locked out of their room so we spent the whole day there instead! fine by me...can't ever get enough sunshine!
played a fun game utilizing every kid that taught several lessons:
1 - we need to surround ourselves with others who've gone before us (role models, good examples, mentors, positive influences, etc.)
2 - choosing to take the right "path" in life is usually not the easy choice. the world often screams at us - pointing us in the wrong direction. (hence the need to know intimately & stay close to the one Voice that will never lead us astray.)
then we had several of the learners join us in acting out the story of the good samaritan - again, emphasizing that making the right choice is not usually easy. but it's by our actions that others will know who we are & what we stand for. absolutely hilarious to see their personalities surface (especially the kid who played the part of the donkey)! oh, they had fun! & it's so great to hear them answering questions in a way that points to actual comprehension!
after-school, we showed the Jesus film to about 13 kids. their genuine reactions to the crucifixion were priceless...& several stayed after to talk further. no commitments made today, but that's so not the point right now. seeds have been planted & they are taking root...it's apparent in their questions & THAT is encouraging! i'd much rather Truths sink deep & take time to come to fruition than for commitments to run shallow & lead to confused souls. i've heard it said before that it typically takes an individual hearing the gospel 7 times before a decision is made. so, for some of these kids in the last few weeks alone, that's 2 down...5 to go. PRAY with us toward genuine commitments & radically changed hearts & lives!
