day 468: disappointment or divine appointment?

tuesday this week i was reminded that my perspective is so limited. sarah & i showed up to school for our first class at 8am & started teaching...but left soon after when we were told that a student teacher needed to use our class period to teach & be evaluated. we were bummed...
- that we wouldn't be teaching that class
- that we wouldn't be teaching the afternoon class either in order to keep the 2 on the same schedule
- that now the two primary schools will not be on the same teaching schedule

the lesson for that day was on genuine love - something these kids have a hard time understanding. the day before we had done so & the learners struggled to understand that abuse is NOT loving. unfortunately, it's just commonly accepted. over the last 2 months alone i've had several conversations with students who admitted they watched men beat their mothers &, for the longest time, just thought it was the norm. so teaching on genuine, selfless love - the 1 cor. 13 kind of love - was meant to be the foundation for sharing next week about the ultimate example we have in Christ.

so - we were definitely bummed about that.

but isn't it just like our God to work all things for good? what started as a disappointment day turned into a day to celebrate.

we returned around 2:45 to meet up with M who's been doing after-school club with us this year there at moshesh primary. we chatted with him a bit & then headed to the classroom. typically, 4-5 students stroll in and we are finished by 3:30. not tuesday.

24 kids piled in - most of whom we'd never seen & some of the young ones who'd showed up for the first time last week. remember the post about them? grade 5 students who struggled badly with english but understood someone (M) would be there to share in xhosa this week.

together, sarah & M shared the gospel using the evangecube...in both english & xhosa over the next hour. by the end of it, 11 made professions of faith! & to think we were bummed that we wouldn't get to share the gospel next week...oh, His plans are far better!

PRAY for these...that they would truly understand the impact of the decision to follow Christ. PRAY that they would continue attending & that they would soon connect to a local church.

icing on the cake? M (who was trained with the life skills curriculum) is now available to join us to teach in the mornings starting next week! huge answer to PRAYer to now have a xhosa-speaking believer with us the majority of the day! thank You, LORD!
