day 57: disaster

today we were reminded that yes, we really live in africa.

just as we headed out the door to run errands & pay bills, i ran to the freezer to take out some meat to let thaw for dinner. to my surprise, it had already thawed out...& when i looked down i realized i was standing in water.

when we called our landlord he wasn't surprised, "yeah, you have to completely defrost your refrigerator every so often. didn't you know that?"

no.
no, we didn't.

so, we temporarily "fixed" the issue until we got back. headed out to pay bills, which was quite the endeavor in & of itself. stood in line for a good 15 minutes only to be told (w/ a smile of course), i can't help you...wrong counter. finally paid the bills & headed back to the flat.

the rest of the day was spent mopping, scraping out the ice build-up on the door frame of the freezer & cooking everything we had in the freezer.

PRAY for us tomorrow as we head to the home affairs office to submit our work visa applications! we've heard our day today pales in comparison to what we'll experience there!
