day 55: hunger & a round of applause

this week the kids are beginning their exams for term 2 so we are not teaching again until term 3; however, this week we'd intended on going to each of the schools to put up posters as reminders for the upcoming camp that will occur during the school holiday.

monday we made our first visit & as we were talking with some of the students, answering their questions about what to expect of the camp, many asked if there would be food. when we replied that there would be, there was a resounding round of applause. the teacher who was accompanying us in that classroom leaned over & said, "they are excited because otherwise many of them will not have food that day."
sometimes in the middle of a lesson, several ladies will interrupt the class time
& come in with buckets full of food.
SOME of the students will eagerly line up for their SMALL bowl of rice or porridge
which most share with at least one other student in class.
we stop the lesson & simply wait...
who can pay attention when their bellies are empty?
how's that for a dose of perspective? PRAY that even though some of these students may be driven to camp merely to satisfy their physical hunger, they would leave SPIRITUALLY FED & THIRSTY FOR MORE as well.
