day 56: protests, planning, pizza & play

PROTESTS: yesterday as we headed to another school to put up posters/reminders about camp, we ran into the aftermath of a protest in the gugulethu township where several of our schools are located. we'd been warned strikes & protests are common & it's not the first time i've seen first-hand the aftermath. policemen were blocking parts of the road. there were smoldering piles rubber here & there. all the traffic lights were busted out & glass lined the roads. so we turned around & didn't make it to the school. later, we found out what had gone on:

PLANNING: today the xhosa youth ministry team met & the 2 journeygirls who are leaving officially handed over the life orientation (LO) curriculum. we talked through some of it & spent a few hours discussing & praying through the vision & a few potential open doors. exciting things are in the works!!

PRAY for wisdom & discernment as to how we should proceed!

PIZZA: after the meeting, bruce & sheri (the xhoss youth ministry team leaders) took us out for pizza (western-style). i'm not normally a pizza fanatic...but it was a GREAT taste of the States!!
PLAY: do not fear - it's not all work & no play around here!! in between our meeting & lunch i discovered a new toy. might have to invest in another for the sake of competition. squeezed in a run today, too!!! i'm a happy camper!!
